Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Before and After Photos
A woman’s breast can often change over time resulting in the loss of skin elasticity. Reasons for this vary from pregnancy, breast feeding, weight fluctuations, aging, and gravity. Breasts that have lost their firm, uplifted contours can affect a woman’s self image and confidence. A desire to restore prior firmness and to improve the shape (“lift”) of the breast may make this the surgery appropriate for you.
Mastopexy is a surgical procedure performed to raise and recontour sagging breast that have lost volume and elasticity. It can also reduce the size of the areola, the dark pink skin surrounding the nipple. The extent of the procedure depends on what changes are desired and what your surgeon deems appropriate.
The surgeon will conduct a routine breast examination and, depending on your age and family history, may determine that a mammogram, or breast x-rays, are required. After examining you, the surgeon will discuss other variables that influence the decisions involved in the procedure, such as your age, the size and shape of your breast and the condition of breast skin. A patient considering breast-feeding following mastopexy should discuss the matter with the plastic surgeon at this time. Incisions are made following the natural contour across the breast and around the areola. A keyhole-shaped incision also is made above the areola to define the new location for the nipple.
Working through the horizontal incisions, the surgeon removes excess skin from the lower section of the breast. The nipple, areola and underlying breast tissue are moved up to a new, higher position. After the nipple is relocated, flaps of skin formerly above and to the sides of the nipple are brought down, around and together to reshape the breast. Sutures close the wounds under the breast and around the nipple area.
